There's nothing quite like the first snowfall of the season in the mountains of Colorado. The stark white against the fiery oranges, yellows and reds of the autumn leaves creates a stunning contrast that is a photographer's dream. If you're lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time, capturing the beauty of this natural phenomenon can be a truly rewarding experience.

I was all ready to head up to Sequoia National Park when the Government shutdown and forced me to look for an alternate location. I am so glad I did. By chance I found a place called Mountain Home State Forest. Mountain Home is not as well known as Sequoia National Park and is truly a hidden gem. There was maybe five people up there and it felt like I had the place to myself. I photographed numerous trees and indian archeological sites that are 8000 years old. To stand among, and inside, these 2000 year old ancient giants was truly special. The Sequoia tree is massive in size and in girth. Photos do not do them justice, you have to see them in person. I was only there for a short time and didn't' get to see everything. This is a place to go back time and time again. I will be back! |
AboutBeing the first to adopt new technology, in 2006 Brett Higgins started documenting, on location, to bring a new perspective to the still image. Brett called it "Beyond the Photograph".
"When people asked how or where a photo was taken I could actually show them, taking the mystery out of how a single image was captured." Beyond The Photograph takes you behind the scenes to see what it takes to make beautiful photographs. |
